La Verne Explodes Past Kean,

La Verne, Calif. (3/15/09) -
The University of La Verne exploded for 23 hits as they defeated #4
Kean University, 16-1, Sunday afternoon.
The Leopards (4-10) plated seven runs in the third inning to propel
them to this afternoon's win. Kean (10-3) erased the shutout
with a single run in the seventh. The Cougars have scored
just one run in the past 19 innings of play.
KU pushed across their lone run in the seventh after junior
Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) led off the inning
with a double. Junior Dave Zavistoski (Edison,
N.J.) then followed with a single to set up runners at
first and third. Freshman Lee Cavico (North
Brunswick, N.J.) then lofted a deep sacrifice fly to
center to break up the shutout.
Southpaw Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.)
suffered the loss. Cesare (1-2) allowed eight runs and nine
hits in two and a third innings of work.
Moceri (pictured right) finished with two hits for Kean.
The Cougars will take a well needed day off tomorrow and return
to action on Tuesday, March 17th at 3 p.m. local time.
