Moceri, Rookies Rally Kean Past Brockport, 9-6

Union, N.J. (3/8/09) - Junior Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) was 5-for-5 as #4 Kean University rallied past The College at Brockport, 9-6, Sunday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Kean (6-1) entered the bottom of the eighth trailing 6-3.  The Cougars looked to shake up the offense and pinch hit rookies Vinny Galya (Old Bridge, N.J.) and D. J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.) to lead off the inning, and they reached on a walk and pinch hit respectively.   Freshman Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.) then loaded the bases with a single.  After pulling within two on a wild pitch, Moceri then delivered an RBI single through the left side to move Kean within one, 6-5.  Rookie Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) tied things up with an RBI single to center.  After Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) loaded the bases again with a hit-by-a-pitch, freshman Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J.) recorded what would be the winning RBI, reaching an another hit-by-pitch.  After Nolan scored later in the inning on a throwing error at the plate, Galya (pictured right), who started off the inning, lofted a sacrifice fly to round out the scoring.

Earlier the Golden Eagles (1-1) produced a five-spot in the top of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.  Junior Joe LaDuca (N. Tonawanda, N.Y.) had the big blow with a two out, two RBI double to left centerfield.

Reliever Drew Campbell (Hillsborough, N.J.) (pictured left) picked up the win for the Cougars.  Campbell (1-0) tossed four and a third innings allowing one run, and three hits.  Senior Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.  Through seven games thus far, Aich has matched his save total from 2008.

Freshman Ray Manioci (Rochester, N.Y.) suffered the loss after giving up two run and two hits without recording an out.

Laguna was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Ramagli finished the afternoon with three runs scored in the leadoff spot.  Gibbons drove in two in two plate appearances.
