William Paterson Pushes Past Kean,
17-11
Wayne, N.J. (4/2/09) - Sophomore Mike Moran
(Pompton Plains, N.J.) was 4-for-5 with three RBI as William
Paterson pushed past Kean University, 17-11, Thursday afternoon in
New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.
Kean falls to 17-6 overall and 3-2 in NJAC play. William
Paterson improves to 11-9 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Both teams exchanged runs early, but WPU exploded for six runs
in their half of the second. Junior Mike Lugo (Jersey
City, N.J.) provided the big blow, a bases-clearing
double. Moran later followed with a two RBI double.
Kean got right back into it with four runs in the top of the
third. After scoring on an error, sac fly and ground out,
freshman Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.)
registered an RBI double to round out the scoring in the
frame. The Cougars would later tie the game at seven all as
Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) drove
home Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.).
The Pioneers then exploded for another seven runs in the sixth
inning, five with two outs, to put the game out of reach.
Southpaw Ryan Zamorsky (Branchburg, N.J.)
suffered the loss. Zamorsky (4-1) allowed nine runs, six
earned, as well as nine hits in four and a third innings of
work. Freshman Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J.) earned the
win in relief for WPU. Coral allowed five runs and five hits
in five innings of relief.
Offensively, Manganiello (pictured right) was 2-for-2 with two
RBI while freshman Vinny Galya (Old Bridge, N.J.)
was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Kean returns home to face New Jersey City University on Friday,
April 3rd at 3:30 p.m.
