WAYNE, N.J. (4/28/09) - William Paterson University freshman right-hander Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J.) tossed a one-hitter to lead the Pioneers to a 3-0 victory over Kean University in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

The #2 Pioneers (30-7) advance to face The College of New Jersey, while the #5 Cougars will battle #6 Montclair State University on Friday, May 1, at 11 a.m., at top-seeded Rowan University.

The Pioneers scored single runs in each of the first three innings to account for the only runs of the game.

In the first inning, sophomore catcher Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J.) had an RBI single up the middle to drive in junior centerfielder Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J.), who had an infield single earlier in the inning.

Senior third baseman Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, N.J.) added a second-inning RBI single, while sophomore designated player Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J.) had a RBI double to left field to increase the lead to 3-0.

Kean junior centerfielder Allison Lizzi (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (pictured right) had the Cougars lone hit of the afternoon, a fifth-inning single.

On the mound, junior Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, N.J.) dropped to 11-9 overall this season.  For William Paterson, Graham improved to 13-4 with 10th complete game of the year.
