Softball Falls to WPU in NJAC

WAYNE, N.J. (4/28/09) - William Paterson
University freshman right-hander Michele Graham (Hawthorne,
N.J.) tossed a one-hitter to lead the Pioneers to a 3-0
victory over Kean University in the opening round of the New Jersey
Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
The #2 Pioneers (30-7) advance to face The College of New
Jersey, while the #5 Cougars will battle #6 Montclair State
University on Friday, May 1, at 11 a.m., at top-seeded Rowan
University.
The Pioneers scored single runs in each of the first three
innings to account for the only runs of the game.
In the first inning, sophomore catcher Nicole Jimmerson (North
Bergen, N.J.) had an RBI single up the middle to drive in
junior centerfielder Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J.),
who had an infield single earlier in the inning.
Senior third baseman Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, N.J.)
added a second-inning RBI single, while sophomore designated player
Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J.) had a RBI double to left
field to increase the lead to 3-0.
Kean junior centerfielder Allison Lizzi (Cherry Hill,
N.J.) (pictured right) had the Cougars lone hit of the
afternoon, a fifth-inning single.
On the mound, junior Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen,
N.J.) dropped to 11-9 overall this season. For
William Paterson, Graham improved to 13-4 with 10th
complete game of the year.
