Kean Blasts Past Montclair, 13-1

Little Falls, N.J. (4/9/09) - Freshman southpaw Ryan Zamorsky (Branchburg, N.J.) scattered seven hits in eight solid innings while Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) (pictured right) belted a grand slam as #5/12 Kean scored in all but one inning in a 13-1 victory over  Montclair State at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Junior second baseman Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with a triple, homerun, three runs scored and two RBI as Kean (22-6, 7-2 NJAC) posted its fifth straight win and swept the season set from Montclair. The Cougars recorded a 5-4 win in Union on March 26.

Sophomore catcher Kevin Bond (Cedar Grove, N.J.) belted a solo home run for Montclair State, which fell back to the .500 mark at 11-11 overall, 4-3 in the NJAC.

The Cougars wasted little time getting on the board as Mike Diaz (Westfield, N.J.) doubled down the right field line with one out and scored as Moceri blasted a triple to right center for the game's first run. Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) followed with a base hit to centerfield as Kean led 2-0 before the Red Hawks came to bat.

KU added a run in the third to push the lead to 3-0. Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) drew a one-out walk and went to third as Kyle Walker (Piscataway, N.J.) (pictured left) doubled down the left field line. Sophomore Mike Mattonelli (Hamilton, N.J.) plated the run with an RBI groundout.

The Cougars then busted the game wide open with a five-run third inning, capped off by a grand slam from Cavico, who connected for his fourth round-tripper of the year. Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.) also had an RBI as he walked with the bases loaded.

Montclair would get on the board in the third as Bond hit his fifth home run of the year, a solo shot to right center.

Cavico would account for the ninth Kean run as he reached on an error and went to second on a base hit by Walker.  The two would execute a double steal and Cavico scored as the throw to third base skipped into left field.

Moceri connected for his second home run of the year in the sixth and Vinny Galya (Old Bridge, N.J.) added an RBI single in the seventh. Gabe Ramirez (North Bergen, N.J.) and Diaz had RBIs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to account for the final two Cougar runs.

Walker had three hits for Kean, which pounded out 18 in the contest. Manganiello, Diaz and Laguna each had two hits.

Zamorsky (pictured right) improved to 5-1 with the win.  He also struck out three in the contest.  Senior Nick Recchia (Randolph, N.J.) took the loss for the Red Hawks to fall to 1-1.

Both teams are in action tomorrow afternoon.  Kean hosts William Paterson at Jim Hynes Stadium at 1:00 p.m.  Montclair State is at Riverfront Stadium to take on Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 p.m.
