Rutgers-Camden Gets Past Kean,
5-3
Union, N.J. (5/9/09) - Rutgers
University-Camden scored five runs on just four hits as they
defeated host Kean University, 5-3, Saturday morning in the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Tournament.
The Cougars (19-20) committed 10 miscues in the game, the highest
single-game total of the season, to aid in the Scarlet Raptors
(24-18) scoring opportunities.
Kean erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the second as
Melissa Dietrich (Carteret, N.J.) recorded a
two-out double to left-centerfield. Senior Jesse
Buchanan (Washington Twp., N.J.) later added an RBI bunt
single to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
Rutgers-Camden took the lead for good with three runs in their
next at-bat, scoring all three without the benefit of a hit.
Kean recorded four miscues in the inning.
Senior Natalie Powell (Williamstown, N.J.) earned the
win for Camden. Powell (15-11) allowed three runs, one
earned, as well as six hits. She fanned three and walked
two. Junior Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, N.J.)
suffered the loss for Kean. Shotwell (11-11) allowed five
runs, one earned, in the complete game effort.
