Men's Hoops Defeats Mary Washington, 64-52

Baltimore, Md. (1/3/10) - The Kean University men's basketball team used a strong second half to break their recent skid and defeat the University of Mary Washington, 64-52, Sunday afternoon in the Blue Jay Invitational at Johns Hopkins University.

Junior Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) (pictured right) was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with a double-double 14 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in today's action for Kean (4-8).

After KU scored the game's first points on a bucket by senior Akinwande Oshodi (Florence, N.J.), the Eagles roared back and raced out to a 12 point advantage on two separate occasions 16-4 with 11:03 to go and 21-9 with 6:11 remaining in the first half.  The Cougars responded and ended the half on a 13-2 run thanks to 10 points from senior Vinnie Darpino (Colonia, N.J.) and closed the gap to just one point (23-22).

Both teams see-sawed in the first five minutes of the second half, but Kean took the lead for good on a layup from senior Rodlin Pierre (Orange, N.J.) with 15:04 to go and didn't look back.  The Cougars would lead by as many as 14 on two separate occasions in the final two plus minutes of action.

Darpino finished with a game-high 16 points while Oshodi added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Kean returns to Harwood Arena and NJAC action on Saturday, January 9th when they take on William Paterson University.
