Men's Hoops Defeats Mary

Baltimore, Md. (1/3/10) - The Kean University
men's basketball team used a strong second half to break their
recent skid and defeat the University of Mary Washington, 64-52,
Sunday afternoon in the Blue Jay Invitational at Johns Hopkins
University.
Junior Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) (pictured
right) was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with a
double-double 14 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in today's
action for Kean (4-8).
After KU scored the game's first points on a bucket by senior
Akinwande Oshodi
(Florence,
N.J.), the Eagles roared back and
raced out to a 12 point advantage on two separate occasions 16-4
with 11:03 to go and 21-9 with 6:11 remaining in the first
half. The Cougars responded and ended the half on a 13-2 run
thanks to 10 points from senior Vinnie Darpino (Colonia,
N.J.) and closed the gap to just one point (23-22).
Both teams see-sawed in the first five minutes of the second
half, but Kean took the lead for good on a layup from senior
Rodlin Pierre (Orange, N.J.) with 15:04 to go and
didn't look back. The Cougars would lead by as many as 14 on
two separate occasions in the final two plus minutes of action.
Darpino finished with a game-high 16 points while Oshodi added
11 points and seven rebounds.
Kean returns to Harwood Arena and NJAC action on Saturday,
January 9th when they take on William Paterson
University.
