Beyruti Shoots Kean Past Rowan, 85-47

GLASSBORO, N.J. (1/6/10) - Senior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) knocked down eight three-pointers en-route to scoring a game-high 24 points, as the #3/4 Kean University women's basketball team defeated host Rowan University, 85-47, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

Beyruti (pictured right), who has knocked down 25 three-pointers in the last three games, hit 8-of-14 shots from long range f or the Cougars (14-1, 3-0).

Kean held the NJAC's leading scorer, Amanda Jennings (Turnersville, N.J.) to 10 points below her scoring average, as the senior finished with just 10 points and eight rebounds for the Progs (7-5, 1-1 NJAC).

Tied at 3-3 early in the first half, the Cougars reeled off a 13-4 run to build a 16-7 lead midway through the half.  Leading 22-14 with just under six minutes remaining, Kean closed the half with a 23-2 run for the 29-point halftime advantage (45-16).  Beyruti knocked down four three-pointers in the run, as she finished with 18 points in the opening half.

In the second half, the Cougars pushed the lead to 46 points (67-21) with 12:17 remaining after scoring 16 straight points, as they cruised to their 14th straight victory.

For the Cougars, rookie Naimah Clemons (Newark, N.J.) finished with 15 points, six steals and five assists, while senior forward Danielle Brown (North Brunswick, N.J.) posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  Junior forward Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway, N.J.) added 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Cougars host ninth ranked and currently undefeated William Paterson University (14-0) in a battle of NJAC division leaders on Saturday, January 9, at 1 p.m.
