Women's Basketball Wins 23rd

Ewing, N.J. (2/13/10) - The Kean University
women's basketball team won their 23rd straight game of
the season, as the #2 Cougars defeated The College of New Jersey,
87-52, Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
Kean improves to 23-1 overall and 12-0 in conference action and
now claims the top spot in the upcoming NJAC Tournament, with a
first round bye and home-court advantage throughout.
The game remained close early on before junior Angelica
Bermudez (Jersey City, N.J.) added a layup with 12 minutes
to go in the first half to push KU's lead to double-digits.
Kean widened their lead to as many as 15 points on three occasions
in the first half, including as they headed into the break, up
43-28.
Senior Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.)
(pictured right) had 12 points, including three treys, in the first
20 minutes of action while junior Tiffany Patrick
(Piscataway, N.J.) also added 12 points and seven
rebounds.
The Cougars took over in the second half, as they used a 16-0 run
over a five minute span to bring home their 23rd win of
the season.
Patrick (pictured left) finished with a game-high 18 points and
12 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season.
Beyruti added 15 points with four three-pointers while rookie
Naimah Clemons (Newark, N.J.) added nine points,
11 rebounds and six assists.
Kean closes out the regular season on Monday, February
15th as they host Rowan University on senior night at 6
p.m.
