St. Joseph's-L.I. Defeats Kean, 9-7

Union, N.J. (3/26/10) – Junior Frank DiPresso (Medford, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two walks as St. Joseph's College-L.I. defeated Kean University, 9-7, Friday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Despite stranding 16 runners aided by a season-high 13 walks and three hit batsmen by the Cougar staff, St. Joseph's improves to 6-8 overall.  The loss drops #6/7 Kean to 11-5.

The Golden Eagles used a four run third inning to take a 6-1 lead, with three walks and four singles in the frame.  After trading back single runs between the fourth and sixth innings, the Cougars finally broke through, with their own four run frame in the bottom of the sixth.  Senior Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) collected an RBI single while junior Ken Gregory (Pittstown, N.J.) added an RBI double to put the score at 8-7.

St. Joe's scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Ryan Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) ran through the stop sign at second to record a leadoff triple.  Sophomore Prateek Thaman (Hauppague, N.Y.) drove him home with an RBI single for the final of 9-7.

Joe Benkert (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) earned the win.  He allowed seven runs, five earned, in five and a third innings.  Freshman Ryan Scarisbrick (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned the save with a three and two third innings performance allowing just one hit and one walk along the way.

Offensively for the Cougars, Gregory (pictured right) was 3-for-5 with two doubles while sophomore D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and triple.

Kean returns to action on Sunday when they face Utica College at 11 a.m.
