Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Rutgers-Newark

Newark, N.J. (4/10/10) – The Kean University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Rutgers-Newark by the finals of 5-4 and 11-6, Saturday afternoon in NJAC action from Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

Game One

The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout before the Scarlet Raiders struck back with five runs on four hits in the fifth inning.  After KU chipped away with a single run in the seventh, they tried to rally in the ninth, but could only push across two runs, falling short by the final of 5-4.  In the ninth inning, junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) provided a two-out, two RBI single but that would be as close as Kean (16-9, 3-4 NJAC) would get.

Senior Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.) suffered his first loss of the season.  Cesare (4-1) allowed five runs in six innings of work, he walked four and fanned nine.

Game Two

Rutgers-Newark (10-14, 3-3 NJAC) got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the first and the Cougars were unable to claw back as the two continued to score throughout the contest.

Sophomore Ryan Zamorsky (Branchburg, N.J.) suffered his first loss in his first start of the year.  Zamorsky allowed six runs, five earned, in two and two thirds innings of work.

Offensively sophomore Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with two homeruns while sophomore D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
