Women's Lax Falls to Rowan,
14-3
UNION, N.J. (4/10/10) – Rowan University
scored the first seven goals of the game en-route to defeating host
Kean University, 14-3, in New Jersey Athletic Conference
women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Senior attack Alayna Morris and junior attack Leah
Hershey each netted three goals for the Profs (6-4, 2-0 NJAC),
while three different players netted goals for the Cougars (4-7,
1-3 NJAC).
In the first half, sophomore midfielder Michelle Lubrano
scored two of Rowan's first three goals in the opening 10
minutes. After Rowan extended the lead to 7-0 on a goal by
Hershey with 3:04 remaining in the half, Kean freshman
Lyndsey Cannon (pictured right) netted the
team's first goal with 35 seconds left in the half to pull
the Cougars to within 7-1 at the break.
The Cougars opened the second half with an unassisted goal by
junior Erica Kelly to cut the deficit to five
goals at 7-2, before Hershey netted the first of three straight
Rowan goals to extend the lead out to 10-2. A free-position
goal by Kean senior Julie Bachovchin pulled Kean
to within 10-3, however Rowan netted the final four goals,
including two by Morris.
Rowan held a 24-7 edge in shots, taking 12 shots each half,
while also holding an 18-11 advantage in groundballs.
For the Cougars, freshman Jules Keeley made
three saves, while junior Brittany Gibbs stopped
two shots.
Rowan junior Lauren Yee had four assists and one goal
in the victory.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, April 14, when the
Cougars host SUNY Maritime College in a Skyline Conference match-up
at 4 p.m.
