Shotwell Pitches Kean to Split With
Oneonta
ONEONTA, N.Y. (4/11/10)
– Senior right-hander Cassie Shotwell tossed
a three-hitter and was 2-of-3 at the plate, as the Kean University
softball team earned a split with Oneonta State with a 3-0 win in
the nightcap. The Red Dragons (11-10) took the opener, 5-0,
in the non-conference twinbill over the Cougars (14-8).
The win in the nightcap also marked the 200th career
victory for Kean Head Coach Margie Acker.
GAME ONE: Four-Run First Inning Lifts Oneonta
State, 5-0
The Red Dragons scored four runs in the bottom of the first
inning en-route to defeating the Cougars, 5-0, in the opener.
Oneonta State opened the inning with three straight hits and had
five hits total in the inning to build a 4-0 lead.
Trailing 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Cougars
threatened by loading the bases with no outs. However, the
Red Dragons were able to get out of the jam with a fielder's
choice out at home plate and a pair of strikeouts.
Kean again threatened in the top of the seventh, with runners on
first and second with one out and then the bases loaded with two
outs before a line out ended the game.
Freshman left fielder Katie Schuh (pictured

were each 2-of-4 for the Cougars.
GAME TWO: Shotwell Delivers in 3-0 Nightcap
Victory
Senior Cassie Shotwell allowed just three hits
and was 2-of-3 with one run scored as the Cougars earned the split
with the 3-0 win in the nightcap.
The Cougars scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning,
taking advantage of four hits and one wild pitch.
Junior Lindsay Kennedy led off with a single,
advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by senior right fielder
Allison Lizzi, and scored on a RBI double by
junior first baseman Katie Yard. Shotwell
followed with an infield single to put runners on the corners and
two batters later sophomore shortstop Alicia Banz
had a RBI double down the right field line. Shotwell scored
the final run on a wild pitch to give the Cougars the 3-0 win.
On the mound, Shotwell (pictured left) struck out six batters
and allowed just one hit through the first four innings. At
the plate, seven different players recorded hits, with Shotwell
posting the only multi-hit game.
The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on
Tuesday, April 13, when they host NJAC preseason favorite William
Paterson University.
