Baseball Sweeps Ramapo, 11-1 &
8-2
Union, N.J. (4/17/10) – Junior Nick Nolan
(Linden, N.J.) was a combined 3-for-6 with two homeruns
and six RBI as the Kean University baseball team swept visiting
Ramapo College, 11-1 & 8-2, Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
With today's wins, Kean improves to 20-9 overall and 6-4
in the NJAC. Ramapo falls to 12-13 overall and 4-7 in
conference play.
Game One
The Cougars used a balanced scoring attack, scoring in all but one
frame. Every starter collected at least one hit as KU pounded
out 17 hits in the process.
Senior southpaw Nick Cesare (South Plainfield,
N.J.) earned his fifth win of the season after tossing
seven strong innings. Cesare (5-1) (pictured left) allowed
one run with six hits, while striking out seven and walking no
one. Relievers Brandon Bujnowski (Springfield,
N.J.) and Joe Tarallo (South Amboy, N.J.)
combined for two innings of shutout ball, allowing no hits in the
process.
Offensively, Nolan was 2-for-3 with a double, homerun and five
RBI. Junior Ken Gregory (Pittstown, N.J.)
was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI with two doubles.
Game Two
With a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, Kean put
the game out of reach with a four run inning. Sophomore
Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) recorded a two
RBI double while sophomore Dylan Laguna (Edison,
N.J.) added an RBI single. Nolan crossed the plate
on a double steal later in the frame.
Sophomore Julian Diaz (North Bergen, N.J.) picked
up the win for Kean. Diaz (3-1) allowed two runs in seven
innings of work. He also walked one and fanned four.
Offensively Cavico was 1-for-4 with three RBI while senior
Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) (pictured right) was
2-for-3 with two runs scored.
For the Roadrunners, Joey Cacchiola and Mike
McGuckin each had solo homeruns in the loss.
Kean enjoys a short break and returns to action on Thursday when
they travel to The College of New Jersey.
