Rowan Rallies Past Kean, 5-4

Glassboro, N.J. (4/2/10) – Rowan's Matt Citro recorded a two out, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to send the Profs past Kean University, 5-4, Friday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.

The game was tied, 4-4, heading into the bottom of the ninth.  RU rightfielder Jordan Marsch was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Third baseman Brad Woodend singled through the right side of the infield, advancing Marsch to third base.  Brandon Winkler was then intentionally walked to load the bases and create the forceout.  After a flyball out with no advancement, Citro lined a single up the middle plating Marsch for the winning run.

Right-hander Kyle Norman threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief for the win (2-2).   Senior Stephen Montalbano pitched a complete game for the loss (2-3).  He surrendered four earned runs, while striking out four batters.

Offensively for the Cougars, junior Nick Nolan went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, two doubles and a homerun.

Trailing 1-0, Kean took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.  Junior Ken Gregory walked and Nolan (pictured right) followed with a two run homer.  In the bottom half of the same frame, Marsch singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Weaver to tie the game (2-2).

Kean went up 3-2 in the top of the sixth as Nolan led off with a double and stole third.  He crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Lee Cavico

Trailing 4-3, the Cougars knotted the game in the top of the eighth.  Nolan doubled to right center field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Cavico singled to right field knocking in Nolan.

KU heads right back to NJAC action when they host New Jersey City University in doubleheader action at 11:30 a.m.
