UNION, N.J. (9/19/10) – Junior
Olivia Triano and senior Kelly Mataya each scored goals to lift the Kean University field
hockey team to a 2-0 shutout over St. Joseph's College of
Maine in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars (5-1) held a 27-7 advantage in shots over St.
Joseph's (3-2), including a 18-6 edge in penalty
corners.
Triano (pictured right) gave the Cougars the early lead in the
first half, firing a shot from the right baseline into the side of
the cage for the 1-0 edge at the 15:11 mark.
The score would remain that way until the final 10 minutes when
Mataya converted the penalty stroke for the 2-0 lead with 9:09
remaining.
For the Monks, junior goalkeeper Meaghan Johnson
stopped 11 shots, while junior back Alyssa Dunn made four
defensive saves.
Kean opens New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday,
September 22, when they travel to Montclair State University.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
