UNION, N.J. (9/29/10) – The Kean
University men's soccer team scored a pair of second half
goals to defeat New Jersey City University, 2-0, in New Jersey
Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.
For the fourth straight game, sophomore Tiago Goetzke (pictured right) netted the game-winner for the
Cougars (6-2-1, 3-0 NJAC).
The Cougars held a 15-10 advantage in shots, including a 10-6
edge in the second half over the Gothic Knights (3-6, 1-3
NJAC).
After a period and a half of scoreless soccer, sophomore
Abner Denis fired a shot from just outside the box
that was blocked by a NJCU defender, however Goetzke picked up the
loose ball on the right side and fired the shot just inside the
right post for the game-winner with 22:25 remaining in the
game.
With less than 12 minutes remaining in the game, NJCU goalkeeper
Zakary Azmi made the initial save off of a shot by Goetzke
but was unable to handle the ball and Denis controlled it behind
Azmi for the insurance goal.
Azmi and Manny Lojo each made one save for the Gothic
Knights, while senior goalkeeper Alfredo Oquendo
stopped three shots in the shutout victory.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 2, when they
travel to Ramapo College for a conference game at 1 p.m.
