Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Tie with TCNJ

Union, N.J. (10/15/11) – The Kean University women's soccer team battled to their second straight double-overtime this week and picked up a 1-1 tie with #11 The College of New Jersey in action on Saturday afternoon.

All of today's scoring came in the second half as Kean (9-2-3) took a 1-0 lead off a bender by junior Carly Seidel at 51:38.  Seidel was 10 yards out when she fired a hard shot after making a few moves around her defender to put the Cougars on the board.  The College of New Jersey (9-2-1) tied things up in the 78th minute as junior Allyson Anderson took a corner kick, one of 17 total for the Lions in the match.  Anderson bent the ball into the upper left post for what would be the final goal of the afternoon.

The Lions held a commanding 17-4 advantage in corners and a 27-7 advantage in shots.

Netminder Kaitlin King  (pictured left) notched nine saves on the afternoon, keeping the Cougars in the match.  Kean's defense also added two goal line saves for a total of 11 stops on the afternoon.  TCNJ's Cristina Gacos recorded three saves.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Western Connecticut State University while the Lions travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening.
