UNION, N.J. (10/26/11) – The Kean University women's soccer team closed out the 2011 campaign with its 10th win of season, as they defeated William Paterson University, 3-1, on Wednesday evening.
Seniors Lauren Small and Danielle Esposito each scored goals in their final career game for the Cougars (10-4-3), while Michelle Marabondo netted the lone goal for the Pioneers (5-8-1).
Kean took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, as junior Kristen Hager controlled a missed clear by the defender and fired her shot into the lower right corner of the net.
The Pioneers tied the game just before halftime when Marabondo scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute.
Esposito netted the game-winner in the 60th minute off the assist from sophomore Shannon Pedersen following a corner, before Small (pictured left) added the insurance tally with her first career goal in the 84th minute with the penalty kick.
William Paterson held a slight 14-13 edge in shots, while both teams had a pair of corner kicks.
In goal, Kaitlin King made four saves for Kean, while Mary Jane Seiler stopped two shots for the Pioneers.
