GALLOWAY, N.J. (10/8/11) – Sophomore Korri Thompson scored three goals to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 5-2 win over Richard Stockton College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (8-3, 2-1 NJAC) outshot Richard Stockton, 16-9, and held a 18-12 advantage in penalty corners over the Ospreys (6-5, 0-4 NJAC).
Thompson (pictured left) gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, scoring off the assist from senior Olivia Triano at 19:05. The Ospreys tied the game less than three minutes later when Nancy White converted the penalty stroke.
Triano would give the Cougars a 2-1 lead at halftime, as she scored off the assist from sophomore Stephanie Soares.
Richard Stockton would again tie the game on a penalty stroke when Nikki Moore converted the shot less than five minutes into the second half for the 2-2 tie.
Soares gave the Cougars the lead for good at 49:16, before Thompson added two more goals to close out the scoring for the three-goal victory.
Kean goalkeeper Erin Langan made three saves, while Osprey keeper Liz Stankiewicz stopped seven shots.
The Cougars return to action Tuesday, October 11, when they host Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at 7:30 p.m.
