Hoboken, N.J. (11/27/11) – The Kean University women's basketball team improved to 4-1 as they defeated Stevens Institute of Technology, 66-58, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Ducks (2-3) and Cougars played a see-saw first half as Stevens headed into the break with a slight lead, 38-36. Junior Naimah Clemons led Kean with 11 first-half points while junior Kyanne Sager added seven.
After falling behind by eight in the second half (46-38), the Cougars scored 16 straight points, including nine from junior Brittanie Payne to take a 54-46 lead, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest.
Clemons finished with a game-high 24 points as well as five steals while Payne added 14 total points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Kean opens up New Jersey Athletic Conference play when they host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
