UNION, N.J. (2/7/11) – Senior forward Tiffany Patrick had a game-high 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Kean University women's basketball team to a 77-56 win over Richard Stockton College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Monday evening.
Patrick (pictured left) led four players in double figures for the #3/2 Cougars (19-3, 10-1 NJAC), while sophomore Aspen Price-Perry led the Ospreys (15-7, 7-3 NJAC) with 13 points off the bench.
The Cougars scored the first 11 points of the game and extended the lead to 20 points at 22-2 midway through the first half on a pair of free throws by Patrick. Kean maintained the double-digit advantage throughout the first half, extending the lead out to 26 points at 39-13 at halftime.
Patrick had 14 points and five steals in the opening half, as the Cougar defense forced Richard Stockton into 21 turnovers and just 18.2 percent (4-of-22) shooting.
After Richard Stockton scored the first points of the second half, a lay-up by Patrick capped a 6-0 run to push the lead out to 30 points at 45-15. Kean would lead by as many as 35 points on a three-pointer by rookie Emily Cristaldi less than seven minutes into the half, before a 16-2 run by Richard Stockton would trim the lead to 69-53 with 3:32 left in the game.
Junior guard Brittany Powell had back-to-back lay-ups for the Cougars in the final two minutes as the Cougars pushed the lead back out to 23 points en-route to the 21-point victory over their NJAC South Division rival.
Sophomore forward Simone Smith (pictured right) added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench for Kean, and sophomore Naimah Clemons and Cristaldi chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Sophomore Che'Na Thompson and senior Julia Fagan combined for 22 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and four blocks for Richard Stockton.
Kean travels to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday, February 9th, for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
