La Verne, Calif. (3/15/11) – Senior Ken Gregory launched his second homerun of the year to breakup the shutout as #4 Kean University fell to the University of La Verne, 10-1, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
This is the second time in as many trips that the Leopards have defeated the Cougars. Kean fell to La Verne in 2009 by the final of 16-1.
With the loss Kean falls to 10-2 overall while the win improves the Leopards to 12-8 this season.
The Cougars scratched across their only run of the game as Gregory (pictured left) led off the top of the ninth with the solo shot.
The Leos scored in the first four frames and added three more in their half of the eighth while adding 14 hits in the process.
Senior Joe Bartlinski (1-1) suffered the loss. Bartlinski threw two plus innings allowing three runs, one earned, and three hits with a walk.
Offensively for the Leos, leadoff batter Jacob Ludvik was 2-for-2 with four runs scored while outfielder Donovan Petta was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to take on the University of Redlands at 2:30 p.m. local time.
