KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/18/11) – The Kean University softball team closed out its Spring Break trip at the Rebel Spring Games falling to Illinois Wesleyan University and Millikin University on Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Illinois Wesleyan No-Hits Kean in Five Innings
Sophomore right-hander Alyssa Vorel tossed a five-inning no-hitter, as Illinois Wesleyan closed out its Spring Break trip with a 9-0 win over the Cougars on Friday morning.
The Titans scored runs in all five innings, using a two-run homerun by shortstop Emma Clark in the third inning and a grand slam by right fielder Katie Bruins in the top of the fifth inning to break open the game.
Seniors Lindsay Kennedy and Nicole Scarillo walked for the Cougars.
Vorel struck out seven in the win.
GAME TWO: Millikin Blanks Kean in Five Innings, 8-0
Millikin broke open the game with four runs in the fourth inning and plated the game-ending runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 8-0 win in five innings over the Cougars, as Kean closed out its Spring Break trip.
Leading 2-0, centerfielder Cora Jeffers lined a three-run homerun down the left field line to cap a four-run fourth inning and extend the lead to 6-0.
The Big Blue closed out the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as left fielder Tosha Ellis drove in a pair with the bases-loaded hit.
For Kean, freshman right-fielder Megan Cegielski was 2-of-3, while rookie Sandra Binkiewicz and catcher Nicole Scarillo each added a hit.
