UNION, N.J. (3/9/11) – Sophomore
Steve Vahalla had a career-high 28 kills, however
the Kean University men's volleyball team fell to New Jersey
Institute of Technology, 3-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday
evening.
The Highlanders (5-12) had five player with double-digit kills,
led by freshman outside hitter Dhruv Lad with 13 kills.
The Cougars battle back from a 1-0 and 2-1 deficit to tie the
match and force the decisive fifth set.
Vahalla (pictured left) had 28 kills and just eight errors in 59
attempts for a .339 hitting percentage. Junior Sam
Haimann had 39 assists, six kills, five digs and five
total blocks. Freshmen Tom Kemmerle and
James Pompeo had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Sophomore Kevin Van Oss had 12 kills, while Adam
Gustafson, Andrei Stoyanow and Herman
Kantushov added 10 kills. Sophomore setter Matthew
Lui dished out 53 assists and had 10 digs.
