Farmingdale, N.Y. (4/27/11) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team bowed out of the Skyline Conference Tournament as they fell to #1 Farmingdale State University, 7-6, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars fell into an early 4-0 hole, as Farmingdale scored three in a two minute span. But Kean chipped away as junior Nick Angrisani (pictured left) scored two to end the first quarter to pull KU within 4-2.
The second quarter was a low scoring affair as each team traded goals for the 5-3 score at the break. Senior Chris Masiulis recorded Kean's third goal with just 36 seconds in the half.
Angrisani jumped out of the break with his third goal of the afternoon to pull the Cougars within one (5-4), but the Rams answered right back two minutes later to regain the two goal advantage.
With 6:15 left to play, sophomore Brad Mills pulled Kean within one again off an assist by Angrisani. Farmingdale edged their lead back to two with a goal one minute and 30 seconds later to put the score at 7-5. Sophomore Adolfo Arrieta (pictured right) kept Kean's hopes alive as he scored an assisted goal with just one minute and 15 seconds to go to pull Kean within one at 7-6. Kean had a chance to tie things up as they won the ensuing faceoff and fired off three shots in the final minute, but the Rams were able to hang on for the win.
Angrisani finished with three goals and an assist while sophomore Ryan Buerkle added two assists. Sophomore Lane Zierten had nine saves in just over 57 minutes of action.
Kean outshot the Rams, 37-28, including 21-9 in the second half.
