Montclair, N.J. (4/28/11) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team fell to host Montclair State University, 17-3, in the semifinals of the Skyline Tournament on Thursday evening at Sprague Field.
The Cougars close the season with a 9-9 record overall record, with a 5-3 record in Skyline competition and a 1-4 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Montclair State (11-4), the top seed in the tournament, used a balanced scoring attack in the first half and limited Kean to just five shots as they took an 8-0 lead into the break.
MSU scored the first three of the second half to lead by as many as 11 (11-0), but Kean was able to breakup the shutout with a free position goal from senior Amanda South with 23:05 to go. Senior Joelle Vitale scored off an assist from sophomore Lyndsey Cannon with 5:06 to go to make the score 15-2 and sophomore Stephanie Tocko rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with an unassisted goal with 1:48 on the clock.
Cannon added four draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers while Vitale recorded five groundballs and three draw controls.
South (pictured right) finishes her Kean career with 220 goals, 64 assists and 284 points, all new program standards for the Cougars.
