Union, N.J. (9/13/11) – Sophomore Brittany Carroll netted the game winner in double-overtime as Montclair State University edged Kean University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both, 3-2, Tuesday evening.
Carroll directed the shot high from junior Michelle Hagel off a corner opportunity, their 18th of the night, from in front of the cage a minute and a half into the second overtime.
The #20 Red Hawks (5-0, 1-0 NJAC) tied the match with just five seconds to go in regulation as senior Devin McNamara redirected a pass from Hagel off another corner opportunity.
The Cougars (2-3, 0-1 NJAC) scored the first two goals of the match to take a 2-0 first half lead in the span of less than two minutes. Sophomore Stephanie Soares (pictured left) notched the first goal of the match and less than two minutes later redirected a pass from senior Olivia Triano off a penalty corner.
MSU held a 30-13 advantage in shots.
Sophomore Erin Langan recorded eight saves while freshman Kylie Vaughn-Kuehl added two during the overtime periods.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Susquehanna University at 1 p.m.
