Baltimore, Md. (9/2/11) – The Kean University field hockey team fell to host Johns Hopkins University by the final of 6-3 in the season opener for both on Friday evening.
The Cougars were led by senior Olivia Triano who netted a hat trick in the loss.
Kean (0-1) quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Triano scored an unassisted goal just six minutes into the action. The Blue Jays (1-0) would then go on to score three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
Triano would put one in at the beginning of the second half to pull Kean within one with the score at 3-2. Hopkins answered in the 47th minute to pull back ahead by two, 4-2. The Cougars would score their final goal of the match on another unassisted goal from Triano at 55:13. Johns Hopkins closed out the match with two straight goals for the 6-3 final.
Sophomore Erin Langan recorded 11 saves in the loss.
Kean will be in action on Sunday for their 2011 home opener when they face Roanoke College at 10:30 a.m.
