Men's Soccer Posts 1-0 Win Over Rutgers-Newark

UNION, N.J. (9/21/11) – Rookie Tulio Pinto knocked in the game's only goal, as the Kean University men's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Newark, 1-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

Senior goalkeeper Brian Haines made two clutch saves in the final minute for the Cougars (5-1-2, 2-0 NJAC), who held a 16-9 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.

For the Scarlet Raiders (5-3, 0-2 NJAC), goalkeeper Jonathan Frances stopped six shots.

After a scoreless first half, Pinto (pictured left) controlled a deflected ball and sent a floater over Frances' head in the 68th minute.

With the Scarlet Raiders on the attack in the final minute of the game, Haines would made back-to-back stops to preserve the NJAC win.

In the victory, Haines made five saves.

Kean returns to action on Saturday, September 24, when the Cougars host Rutgers-Camden in NJAC action at 1 p.m.
