UNION, N.J. (9/21/11) – Rookie
Tulio Pinto knocked in the game's only goal,
as the Kean University men's soccer team defeated
Rutgers-Newark, 1-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on
Wednesday evening.
Senior goalkeeper Brian Haines made two clutch
saves in the final minute for the Cougars (5-1-2, 2-0 NJAC), who
held a 16-9 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
For the Scarlet Raiders (5-3, 0-2 NJAC), goalkeeper Jonathan
Frances stopped six shots.
After a scoreless first half, Pinto (pictured left) controlled a
deflected ball and sent a floater over Frances' head in the
68th minute.
With the Scarlet Raiders on the attack in the final minute of
the game, Haines would made back-to-back stops to preserve the NJAC
win.
In the victory, Haines made five saves.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, September 24, when the
Cougars host Rutgers-Camden in NJAC action at 1 p.m.
