William Paterson Pushes Past Women's Soccer

Wayne, N.J. (10/24/12) – The William Paterson University women's soccer team used two late goals to top Kean University by the final of 2-1, Wednesday evening in NJAC action.

With the loss (10-5-2, 4-3-2 NJAC) the Cougars are now sixth in the NJAC and will head to the road in the first round of the NJAC Tournament slated to begin on Saturday.  Kean awaits the results of the Rowan/TCNJ matchup that is scheduled for Thursday evening.  The fifth-seeded Pioneers (9-7-2, 5-4 NJAC) will play at fourth-seeded Richard Stockton Saturday.

After 65 minutes that saw both teams prove unable to finish dangerous opportunities, the Cougars and Pioneers combined for two goals in less than two minutes.  Senior Carly Seidel (pictured left) ran onto a long diagonal ball off the foot of junior Carla Vitola, driving a shot from range back across the frame and into the right side netting at the 64:44 mark.

WP responded 1:54 later, as senior Erika Juricic sent a throw-in to Michelle Marabondo, who rocketed a shot from 25 yards out that hit the right post and spun into the goal.  Marabondo handed the Pioneers their first lead with her second goal of the night, taking advantage of a Laela Brock pass to square up to the frame inside the box.  She cut the ball back to get a clear look, finishing to the lower-right side in the 75th minute.

Samantha Blair posted five saves during the first half for Kean, and fellow freshman KC Nunez had four during the final 45:00 for the Cougars.  Junior Mary Jane Seiler made four first-half saves for the Pioneers, and teammate Alyssa Falduto had one second-half stop.
