Camden, N.J. (2/4/12) - Junior guard Naimah Clemons scored a game-high 35 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double to power Kean University over Rutgers-Camden, 71-50, Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
Kean, ranked No. 21 in both the USA Today/ESPN and the D3hoops.com Top 25 polls, improves to 20-3 overall and 11-0 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 13-9 and 2-8.
The Scarlet Raptors held an early 11-8 lead before the Cougars went on an eight-point run, taking the lead at 12-11 on a jumper by freshman Shay Collins. Kean opened its lead to as many as nine points before the Lady Raptors rallied to within 30-24 at halftime.
Clemons had 12 first-half points as the Cougars held a 27-21 advantage off the boards in the opening half, led by seven rebounds from senior Danielle McFadden.
Rutgers-Camden scored 12 of the first 18 points in the second half to tie the game at 36-36 before Kean went on a 13-point run to take the lead for good. The run was sparked on a layup by junior Simone Smith and featured six points from Clemons.
In addition to her double-double, Clemons added a game-high seven steals for Kean, which has won five straight games. McFadden, meanwhile, collected a game-high 15 rebounds to help the Cougars hold a 54-40 advantage off the boards.
Junior guard Brittanie Payne added eight points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, while Smith scored seven points.
The Cougars travel to take on The College of New Jersey on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
