FERRUM, Va. (3/21/12) – Junior
Lyndsey Cannon scored three times and added three
assists, however the Kean University women's lacrosse team
dropped a 9-8 decision to Ferrum College in non-conference action
on Wednesday morning.
Tied 6-6, Ferrum (7-4) scored two of the next three goals and
held on for the one-goal victory over the Cougars (2-4).
After the Cougars took a 2-1 lead following goals from Cannon and
sophomore Julie Knodt, Ferrum netted the next
three goals and held a 5-4 lead at halftime. Courtney
Hamm scored twice for Ferrum, while Brooke Hewartson
had a goal and two assists.
Ferrum extended the lead with the first goal of the second half,
before back-to-back goals by junior Stephanie
Tocko and Cannon (pictured left) tied the game at 6-6 with
20:54 remaining. Hamm gave Ferrum the lead back for good with
a goal with just under 13 minutes left. Kean pulled back to
within one goal following a score by sophomore Ciara
Mastrodomenico and again on Cannon's goal with 48
seconds left, however the Cougars were unable to tie the game
up.
Cannon finished with six draw controls, six groundballs and five
caused turnovers, while Tocko added two goals. Goalkeeper
Jules Keeley made eight saves.
For Ferrum, Hamm finished with a game-high four goals and
Hewartson added three goals and two assists.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, March 24, when they travel
to Mt. St. Mary College for Skyline Conference action at Noon.
