Mahwah, N.J. (3/29/12) – The Kean University men's volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season in Skyline Conference play, falling to Ramapo College, 3-1, Thursday evening.
The Cougars, currently ranked 14th in the AVCA Division III Top 15 Poll, fall to 19-8 overall and 11-1 in conference action. The win improves Ramapo to 14-11 and 10-1 in the Skyline. In this week's first NCAA regional rankings for the season, Kean is currently second in the East Region.
After falling behind 2-0 (16-25, 17-25), the Cougars surged in the third set, almost doubling their kill total from the first two sets, winning the set, 25-22. Junior Steve Vahalla recorded eight of his 20 kills on the night in the set. Ramapo, however, was able to push by the Cougars in the fourth set (21-25) to split the season series between the two programs.
Vahalla (pictured left) finished with 20 kills (.390 attack percentage) with seven digs while rookie Kyle Farley added seven kills. Setters Ron Dunn and Alex Barnhard combined for 39 assists on the night.
Kean returns home on Saturday evening for a tri-match with Wells College and City College of New York beginning at 4 p.m.
