Montclair, N.J. (4/18/12) – The Montclair State University women's lacrosse team used five straight goals to close out the game and top Kean University by the final of 17-11 Wednesday afternoon in both Skyline and New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
With the loss Kean falls to 8-6 overall, 5-3 in Skyline play and 2-2 in the NJAC. The win improves the Red Hawks to 10-4 this season, 6-1 in Skyline action and 3-1 in NJAC play.
The Cougars were led by junior Lyndsey Cannon who tallied four goals and an assist. In the process, Cannon recorded her 200th career goal at Kean. Sophomores Ciara Mastrodomenico and Julie Knodt (pictured left) each registered three goals in the loss.
It was a see-saw affair in the early going of the match with four ties in the first 30 minutes of action. MSU rallied late in the first half down, 6-4, with four straight goals to tie and take a 8-6 lead into the intermission.
The Red Hawks pushed their lead to 10-6 with two goals 12 seconds apart before Kean got back into it with two goals a minute apart from Mastrodomenico and Knodt. After trading goals later in the second period, the same combination of Mastrodomeico and Knodt pulled the Cougars within one, 12-11, but the Red Hawks would hold on during the final 10 minutes, scoring five to pull away with the win.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Arcadia University in non-conference action beginning at 1 p.m.
