Baseball Splits in NJAC Action at MSU

Little Falls, N.J. (4/7/12) – The #6/7 Kean University baseball split in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Montclair State University, taking game one 4-3 and falling in the nightcap, 11-3.

The Cougars are now 19-7 overall with a 4-2 NJAC mark, while Montclair stands with 15-8 mark overall and 5-1 record in conference play.

Game One

Kean broke through in the sixth inning as senior Eddie Jennings got things started with a sacrifice fly.  Senior Dylan Laguna followed with an RBI double and two batters later, junior Nick Ramagli made it 3-0 with an RBI single to left.  Sophomore Joe O'Connor made it 4-0 when he crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Red Hawks got two back in the bottom of the same frame as infielder Louis Martini recorded two RBI single up the middle, putting the score at 4-2.

MSU rallied in the bottom of the ninth, plating a single run with a two-out single.  With the tying run at third base, closer Steve Sanguiliano forced a strikeout to end the threat and seal the win, his fourth save of the season and second in two days.

Junior Kevin Herget (pictured left) improved to 4-2 as he tossed eight innings allowing two runs and five hits while fanning 11 and walking five.  Sanguiliano tossed the ninth allowing one run and two hits with two strikeouts.  At the plate he and Ramagli were both 2-for-4.

Game Two

The nightcap belonged to MSU as they scored in all but three innings with 11 runs and 14 hits while taking advantage of five Cougar miscues.

Senior Chris Cirlincione (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season.  He threw four innings allowing six runs, five earned, with eight hits.  He fanned three and walked one.

Trailing 4-0, Kean plated two runs in the top of the fifth as senior Vinny Galya recorded a sacrifice fly and sophomore Shane Alvarez was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded.  MSU pulled away with five runs in the bottom of the same inning on their way to a split in Saturday's action.

Offensively Sanguiliano (pictured right) and Jennings each had two hits in the loss.

Kean returns to action on Thursday when they host New Jersey City University in NJAC action at 3:30 p.m.
