Salem, Va. (9/16/12) – The Kean University field hockey team jumped out to an early lead and held on for the shutout win over host Roanoke College, 5-0, Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars (4-4) used four first half goals to pace the offense. Junior Veronica Pogorzelski got things going with a goal in the 19th minute off a deflection. Just two minutes later, rookie Marissa Robinson made it 2-0 with a goal from the right side. Freshman Laura Cheatham gave Kean a 3-0 advantage at the 32:52 mark and Robinson added her second goal of the day two minutes later for a 4-0 lead at the break.
Junior Korri Thompson added one second half goal for the 5-0 final.
Thompson and Cheatham (pictured left) both finished with one goal and one assist while senior Kelly Bachovchin added two assists in the win.
The Cougars return home and will take on #1 The College of New Jersey in NJAC action on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
