Montclair, N.J. (1/12/13) – Senior
Erika Jones recorded her fourth straight
double-double, but it wasn't enough as #12/16 Montclair State
University topped the Kean University women's basketball
team, 76-44.
Sophomore Melissa Tobie posted a double-double with 14
points and 10 rebounds for the Red Hawks while Jones (pictured
left) finished with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds.
MSU remained unbeaten at 16-0 while beating the Cougars (3-10) for
the first time since February 18, 2006.
Jones, who scored all 17 of Kean's points in the first
half, scored on a layup to make it 15-10 with 10:52 remaining
before MSU exploded for 22 consecutive points over the next eight
minutes. Jen Kuczynski began the spurt with a pair of free
throws and added five points in the run as did Tobie giving the Red
Hawks a 37-10 lead with 2:56 to go before halftime. Montclair
State led 37-17 at the break.
In the second half, Kean would get as close at 16 points as
Jones dropped in a layup to get the Cougars within 41-25 however
Sarah Kluth answered with a layup and Kuczynski connected
on back-to-back three-pointers as the lead was boosted back to
49-25 with 13:14 left.
Sophomore guard AnnaRose Pierre had 14 points
for Kean. Kuczynski finished with 13 points while junior
Nicosia Henry added 14 points and nine rebounds for the
Red Hawks.
Kean returns home to host #6/5 Amherst College on Monday,
January 14 at 6 p.m.
