Magloire scored a game-high 31 points as the College of Staten
Island defeated the Kean University men's basketball team,
80-59 on Monday afternoon.
The Dolphins (12-3) shot 55 percent from the field, while also
shooting 59 percent from behind the arc. Freshman
Allen Dantzler (pictured left) had 12 points and
four rebounds, while junior Michael Burton scored
12 points to help pace the Cougars (6-12).
The first half of the game was tight, featuring five lead changes
and four ties. After trailing by five points with just five minutes
gone in the first half, the Cougars went on an 10-0 run, with
Burton scoring six in the span, to take a 23-18 lead. The Dolphins
turned it around and had their biggest lead of the first half when
Magloire drained a three pointer with 1:40 remaining, to put CSI
ahead, 38-28. Magloire finished the first half with 19 points,
while shooting a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc. Burton chipped in
nine first half points off the bench for the Cougars.
After freshman Nolan Soto cut the deficit to
nine with just over 18 minutes remaining in the second half, the
Dolphins went on an 11-2 run, culminating with a three point basket
from Jon Chadwick-Myers. CSI would maintain a double-digit
lead throughout the rest of the period. Chadwick-Myers poured
in 12 points during the second stanza; while senior Anthony
Gibson helped the Cougars with six points off the
bench.
Chadwick-Myers chipped in with 19 points and six assists for
Staten Island.
The Cougars return home Wednesday, January 23rd as
they take on #12 Ramapo College, with tipoff at 8 p.m. The Dolphins
are on the road again as they take on York College (N.Y.) at the
same time.
