Bethlehem, Pa. (1/3/13) – The Kean University men's basketball team defeated Valley Forge Christian College, 65-56, Thursday afternoon in the consolation finals of the 35th Annual Greyhound Classic.
The first half was a battle as Kean (4-7) held its largest lead at 11 points with 6:37 left in the half, but Valley Forge battled back to within four points at halftime at 31-27. Freshman guard Tommy Soulias led the Cougars with 13 points while junior guard Lance Harris led the Patriots with nine points.
In the second half, Valley Forge kept it close for the first ten minutes until Kean started to pull away while pushing their advantage to 11 points with 7:22 to play. The Patriots came within seven points of the lead in the final two minutes, but Kean finished on top 65-56.
Junior Kyle Latorre (pictured left) was named to the Greyhound Classic All-Tournament Team as he led Kean with 17 rebounds, nine points and three assists. Junior Michael Burton and Soulias each had a game-high 18 points in the win.
The Cougars held a 40-29 advantage in rebounding, while both teams were even in their shooting percentage.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden in NJAC action beginning at 1 p.m.
