Robinson Scores in Final Minute to Deliver Field Hockey Win

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (11/2/13) – Sophomore Marissa Robinson of the Kean University field hockey team scored with just 40 seconds remaining in the Cougars' game with SUNY New Paltz to snap a 1-1 tie and give Kean a victory in the final game of the regular season.

It is the Cougars' 14th win of the year and clinches Kean's perfect 12-0 non-conference slate this season. Kean is now 14-4 overall while the Hawks fall to 11-8.

New Paltz struck early in the contest; Danielle Conklin scored her 22nd goal of the season unassisted off a rebound in the eighth minute to quickly stake the hosts to the lead.

The game remained 1-0 through halftime, though Kean took more first-half shots and penalty corners.

Kean finally broke through in the 50th minute, as Korri Thompson sent a pass across the crease to Laura Cheatham, who knocked it into the cage for her third goal of the season.

As the game wound down, Thompson (pictured left) engineered another scoring play, this time off a penalty corner. Cheatham inserted the ball from the goalline to Thompson. She sent the ball down the left side for Robinson who guided the sphere into the twine for the game-winner. It was her third goal of the season.

Katie DiCarlo earned the win in net for Kean, making 11 saves in the winning effort.

The Cougars will await a bid to the ECAC Championship. If selected, the tournament will begin on November 13.
