Union, N.J. (11/26/13) – Junior Stephanie Carlone netted a game-high 22 points as she led the Kean University women's basketball team past visiting Ramapo College by the final of 88-54 Tuesday evening in NJAC action.
The win boasts Kean to a 2-0 record in conference play and a 3-2 overall mark while the loss drops the Roadrunners to 2-3 this season and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Tied at four-all, the Cougars sprinted out to a 17-4 lead in a three minute span as freshman Essence Casey (pictured left) hit back-to-back baskets for five points as each starter contributed points in the run. Rookie Kellie Lane broke the 17-0 run with a jumper at 14:45. Maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the first half, Kean was able to take a 40-24 advantage into the break.
Carlone registered 12 first half points for Kean while sophomore Jazmine Davis added four points and seven rebounds. For Ramapo, senior Micaela Moore tallied 12 points while adding three steals in 17 minutes of action.
Kean then poured it on in the final 20 minutes as they limited the Roadrunners to 29% shooting (7-24) while forcing 17 turnovers. The Cougars pushed the lead out to as many as 44 on two separate occasions late in the half as every available player saw action in the contest.
In addition to her 22 points, Carlone added six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Senior Simone Smith registered 17 points with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Moore, Lane and senior Anna Fucci all finished in double digits with 14, 10 and 12 respectively.
Kean returns to action after a short holiday break on Monday when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. in non-conference action.
