NEWARK, N.J. (2/13/13) – Senior Erika Jones closed out her intercollegiate career with a stellar 37 point / 20 rebound night but the Kean University women's basketball team fell to Rutgers-Newark by a 72-59 count on Wednesday.
The Cougars kept the game close throughout most of the night and led at the end of the first half. The halftime lead was spurred by Jones' 5-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Rutgers-Newark was held to 34 percent shooting and was out-worked on the glass as well in the first period.
Kean's leaned on its starters heavily through the second half, and as the clock slipped under 10 minutes the Kean lead evaporated as well. Three players – Jasmine Daniels, Jewell Palmer and Laura Shakiri – reached double digits for the Scarlet Raiders.
Senior Kyanne Sager (pictured left) finished her four-year career on Wednesday night as well. The Vermont native shot 50 percent from the floor in her final game, grabbed four rebounds and made every free throw she attempted.
Kean ends the 2012-13 season with a 5-18 record, while Rutgers-Newark improves to 17-8 entering the postseason.
