Patchogue, N.Y. (3/22/13) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team battled but couldn't overcome a first half deficit, falling by the final score of 8-6, Friday evening, in Skyline Conference action.
Senior Stephanie Tocko led the Cougars (6-2, 2-1 Skyline) with three goals in the contest, all in the second half.
In a low scoring first half, the Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-0 Skyline) combo of Heather Ferchland and Jackie Myers connected twice to take a 2-0 lead. The Cougars cut the lead in half as senior Lyndsey Cannon notched a free position goal with 11:46 to go, but St. Joe's used two late goals in the period to extend the lead to three (4-1) at the break.
It was Cannon against with a free position goal to start the scoring in the second period (4-2), but the Golden Eagles were able to stretch the lead to their largest of the match (6-2) with consecutive goals in a two minute span.
Kean rallied as Tocko (pictured left) then rolled off three straight to bring the deficit to one (6-5). But that would be as close as the Cougars would get as the Golden Eagles countered as the teams see-sawed goals in the final minutes.
Cannon finished with two goals while junior Julie Knodt added two assists.
Kean returns home to state on two-conference rival Montclair State University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
