Bobal Nets Five as Men's Lacrosse Edges Potsdam, 11-10

Union, N.J. (3/27/13) – Senior Brad Mills netted the game-winner with under two minutes left in the regulation as the Kean University men's lacrosse team pushed their win streak to seven, edging SUNY Potsdam, 11-10.

Senior Sean Bobal led all players with five goals in the contest as the Cougars improve to 7-1 overall.  Senior Pat Morill had three goals in the loss for Potsdam (3-2).

Kean broke the game open with three consecutive goals from three different Cougars as part of a five goal first quarter.  Bobal and junior Richard Cheifitz each had two as Kean closed out the first quarter with a 5-2 lead.

The second quarter saw little scoring as both teams traded goals, sending Kean into the intermission with a 6-3 lead.

The Bears responded after the break turning a 7-4 deficit into an 8-7 lead.  Junior Rob Kunz tied the match at seven-all with 7:15 on the clock and Morill gave Potsdam their first lead of the day with an unassisted goal with 4:35 remaining in the third.  The Cougars were able to knot the contest with under a minute as Bobal netted his fourth goal of the day.

Kean then went back on top as Bobal connected on an unassisted goal with 10:02 and Mills (pictured left) added one more off pass from senior Tom Clifford a minute and a half later.  Potsdam didn't go away quietly and tied the match up at 10-all with 3:32 left as rookie Ed Doherty took a feed from Brady Fremont.  Mills then delivered the game-winner off an assist from Bobal with 1:37 to go in regulation.

Keeper Dino Vitale tallied seven saves in his first start of the season for the Cougars.  For the Bears, Stefan Sloma recorded 13 saves as Kean outshot Potsdam, 41-35 on the night.

The Cougar remain home and will face off against Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
