Mahwah, N.J. (4/2/13) – The #14 Kean University men's volleyball team jumped into first place in the Skyline standings as they edged Ramapo College, 3-2, Tuesday evening.
Kean improves to 10-1 in the Skyline and reaches the 20-win mark (20-7). The Roadrunners fall to 10-2 in conference play and 18-8 overall.
The entire matchup was a battle as Ramapo pulled through with wins in the first and fourth set (25-23, 25-22) and Kean coming out on top in the second, third and deciding set (25-22, 25-22, 15-13).
The Cougars held a share of the lead for every point in the deciding set, but pulled through when it mattered; picking up kills from sophomores John Cunningham and Ed Jedziniak to break a 13-all tie.
Senior Steve Vahalla led all players with a double-double 24 kills and 10 digs. Vahalla (pictured left) also added three total blocks. Rookie Tommy Rosario recorded nine kills on 15 swings with four total blocks. Sophomore setter Alex Barnhard tallied 49 assists in the win.
Kean heads home for their final regular season matchup at Harwood Arena on Thursday when they host NYU-Poly at 7:30 p.m. for senior night.
