Baseball Swims Past CSI, 12-1

Union, N.J. (4/2/13) – Junior Joe O'Connor was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI as the #4/6 Kean University baseball team sailed past the College of Staten Island, 12-1, Tuesday afternoon.

O'Connor fell a homerun shy of the cycle as he recorded three extra base hits, including his 13th career triple, setting a new Cougar career standard in that category.  Kean improved to 17-5 overall while CSI fell to 12-9 this season.

The Cougars used a steady scoring attack, plating runs in five separate frames.  O'Connor made it 2-0 in the first with his first hit of the afternoon, a triple.  He would extend that lead to 3-0 with an RBI double in the third and copied that at-bat again in the fifth to make is 5-0.

Kean put the game out of reach with a four spot in the sixth inning.  Senior Nick Ramagli lofted a two RBI single, followed by an RBI single from O'Connor.  Rookie Aaron MacKenzie pushed the lead to double-digits with an RBI single into left.

Sophomore Andy Lopez registered four hits with four runs scored and an RBI while freshman Ryan Kelley collected two RBI with two hits.

Freshman Andrew Torres (1-0) (pictured left) earned his first collegiate win with a seven inning performance.  He allowed one unearned run with five hits and five strikeouts.  Sophomore Robert Jannace (0-2) suffered the loss for CSI.  Jannace allowed two runs in two innings of work with three hits.

Offensively for the Dolphins, rookie John Baggs and sophomore Joseph Cespuglia recorded two hits apiece.

The Cougars host rival Montclair State University on Thursday in NJAC action beginning at 3:30 p.m.
