Men's Lacrosse Falls in Skyline Championship Game

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (4/27/13) - Senior Kenneth Bogert - who was named the Skyline Conference Tournament MVP - scored six goals and Michael Dorn made 10 saves to help lead Montclair State men's lacrosse past Kean University in the Skyline Conference Championship game on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks and Cougars traded goals over the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, as Kenneth Bogert connected twice for the Red Hawks, and Richard Cheifitz and Brad Mills scored for the Cougars. The Red Hawks would push three more across before the end of the first stanza, as Bogert, Michael Jevic, and Zach Schreck would score, with Schreck scoring with a man up. Tom Clifford would answer back for the Cougars, trimming the deficit to 5-3 going into the second period.

After Mills scored 47 seconds into the second period to cut the Montclair lead to one, the Red Hawks outscored the Cougars 7-1 over the remaining 14 minutes to stretch the lead to 12-5 at the break. Zach Schreck opened the 6-0 scoring run with an incredible behind-the-back goal, followed up by Bogert, Joel Van Der Wal, Sam Morrissey, and a pair of Jack Skeels goals gave the Red Hawks a 11-4 lead. After Sean Bobal tallied to trim the deficit to 11-5, it was Bogert who scored with eight seconds remaining in the half to make the halftime score 12-5.

After John Marcelli was able to connect with a man up to make it a 12-6 contest, Bogert, Jevic and Skeels scored to close out the third period with the Red Hawks leading 15-6 heading into the final frame. Marcelli and Marc Scoran would trade goals in the fourth quarter to give the Red Hawks the final score of 16-7.

Skeels finished with three goals and two assists, and Zacb Schreck had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Red Hawks. Dino Vitale and Lane Zierten combined to make 17 saves for the Cougars, who fell to 15-3 on the year.

With the win, the Red Hawks have clinched the Skyline Conference automatic berth into the 2013 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
