Baseball Bows Out of World Series

Appleton, Wis. (5/26/13) – The Kean University baseball team bowed out of the NCAA Division III National Tournament falling by the final of 3-1 against Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars finish the 2013 season with a 39-13 record after advancing to the World Series for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Ithaca used a two out rally in the first to scratch across two runs which turned out to be the difference in the contest.  After reaching first on a single, shortstop Tim Locastro would go on to swipe second and third.  Colby Gee pushed across the first run with a double down the line and Casey Caswell made it 2-0 with a single to left.

The Bombers made it 3-0 in the fifth with an RBI triple from Christian Brown before the Cougars broke up the shutout with a single run in the top of the sixth as rookie Ryan Reitmeyer lofted a sacrifice fly, scoring fellow rookie D.J. Ross who started off the inning with a single.

Southpaw Dan Hansen suffered the loss for Kean.  Hansen (3-3) allowed three runs and eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
