UNION, N.J. (1/31/14) – The No. 14 Kean University men's volleyball team made short work of Emerson College in a 3-0 sweep on Friday evening. Kyle Farley had eight kills for the Cougars and setter Ron Dunn led the team with both 29 assists and six digs. Both teams are now 2-3 on the year.
Kean asserted itself early and scored 10 of the first 14 points of the match, prompting the Lions to call timeout. Emerson got within striking distance, but the Cougars never trailed in the set that featured a combined 12 service errors by both sides.
After briefly falling behind in set two, an ace by Dunn at 13-7 forced Emerson to call timeout and sent the Lions back to the drawing board. EC had no answer for the rest of the time in the second, and the Cougar defense held Emerson to a .000 hitting percentage in the second frame.
Kean continued to play well in the third. Emerson swung with just a .036 success rate as Kean racked up a total of 12 blocks and 25 digs in the three-set match.
In all, nine Cougars registered kills on the night, including Josh Haimann (pictured left) who hit a perfect 1.000.
The Cougars will host a tri-match on Saturday afternoon, with Kean taking on SUNY New Paltz and noon followed by Lancaster Bible College at 4 p.m.
